– Lion Prin (Dr) Ashok Desai was born on 11th June, 1961 into a prestigious Anavil family known as Dandiwala Parivar. Academically brilliant Ashokbhai completed his M.com, M.Phil and Ph.D from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. In 1983, he joined the reputed Z.F.Wadia Women’s College& N.K. Jhota College of commerce, Surat as a lecturer in Statistics. There after there was no turned back. He became the Principal of the institute in 2001. In his academic professional career he introduced Post Graduate courses in M.Com & M.A. and also English medium class in the Commerce faculty. He introduced English as a Core subject in the Arts faculty. In order to enhance the Vocational Skills he introduced seven short term certificate courses along with the graduation programme. He established “Cycle Club” in this institute as a part of our endeavor to conserve environment and safe guard natural resources. To set a good example to the students, he himself comes on cycle to the college. The institute has greatly benefitted under his leadership. The institute was accredited “A” Grade by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC), Bangalore in 2016. The college was twice accredited with ‘A’ Grade by the State Accreditation Committee. Taking note of his excellent leadership quality, the National Accreditation team appointed him as the member of the Peer Team at national as well as state level quality.

– His leadership quality has no boundaries. He conceptualized, materialized and established the Gujarat State College Principal’s Association. He served as its General Secretary. At present he is the Vice- President of the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University Principal’s Association and also Gujarat State College Principal’s Association. He is the Vice President of the All India College Principal’s Association. He is member of the Managing Committee of Surat’s Vidyamandir Society and Sheth P.T. Mahila College’s Local Committee. He is Research Guide for M.Phil Students and has published more than 10 Research Papers at the National Level. He has served as a writer for different publications.

– Just as he achieved excellence in his academic career his Lionistic career has proved to be brilliant. In 1984-85 he became the member of the Lions Club Navsari Midtown. He has diligently served the club in various positions. In 1992-93 he became the secretary and there after its President in 1997-98. From 1999 to 2014 he served as District Chairperson in different responsible positions. In 2001-02 he became the Zone Chairman. He became the chairman of The Membership Growth Committee in 2015-16, Membership Retention Committee in 2016-17 and Club Extension in 2017-18. He was elected as The Second Vice District Governor with a thumping majority and Record Breaking Number of Votes. In his 34 years of career in the Lions Club he started Surat Spandan and Surat Legendary Club for the District. He sponsored more than 50 members. As District Chairperson he has successfully organized two seminars in Membership Growth and one in Membership Retention. As club extension in charge he added nine more clubs with the co-operation of other members. As District Chairperson he published more than seven informative bulletins. During his tenure as the President of the Lions Club Navsari Midtown, he organized “Model Test” for the 10th and 12th Standard Students. He remained the Convener of this Model Test for Five Years. This created a good impression as an academician. He organized an Unforgettable “Academic Mock Parliament” as the Club President. He attended more than five multiple conventions and 25 District Conferences.

– He Participated in “Jeev Daya Rally” at Nepal and Madhya Pradesh. He did a course in DLLI. He has toured Nepal, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi and America. He attended Las-Vegas International Convention. He has also delivered a speech at Lawrence Ville Club, Atlanta. He has been awarded five International and four Multiple Certificates. He has been honored and awarded by Education Minister of Gujarat Shree Bhupendrasinh Chudasma and other Educational Institutes for his Leadership Excellence.

– Dr. Ashok Desai is a Social Activist and Contributed a Lot in the development of society. He is always in the forefront in all the social and charitable works under taken by different association. He is a Trustee of Anavil Sanskar Trust, Navsari. He was the member of the Executive Committee of Anavil Samaj Navsari, Sayaji Vaibhav Library, Dham Ambica Vipassana Centre. He is Life Member of the Prestigious Anavil Association (Shukleshwar Mandal), Dayalji Ashram (Surat), Anavil Samaj (Navsari) and Also the Rander- Adajan Anavil Samaj (Surat).

– His wife Smt. Hemangini Desai has secure first position in M.Lib. Science. She is the executive committee member of the Lions Club Navsari Midtown . She is serving as a Librarian for Sheth Barfiwala College of Commerce since last 34 Years. His son Mr. Nisarg Desai has done is M.S with A+ Grade from U.S.A. At present he is working for APPLE, San Diego, America. His Daughter in Law Mrs. Diti Desai has done her Ph.D from Finland in Cancer Prevention. She is working as a Senior Scientist for NATTO Company, America. Dr. Desai’s family is considered as an “Intellectual Family” in the society.
